Tomorrow is the day...

It's so surreal to know that in less than 12 hours, I will be having brain surgery. Head cut open with two neurosurgeons messing around up there. In case you've missed it, I've got a benign brain tumor that's being removed tomorrow morning. It's wedged or wrapped o something around my brain stem and my cerebellum. It's messing up the 5th nerve in my brain.I don't pretend to understand all of this for even a second. All I know is that my head has been hurting a lot, I can't see very clearly at times, and right now my left hand is swollen and the redness is spreading up my wrist. I didn't injure it on anything, so I'm not sure what's up.

I will be in ICU following the surgery. I don't know how long I'm supposed to be there. The surgery starts tomorrow morning at 7AM and should last about 6 hours, if all goes well. They won't have to shave a bunch of my hair, I hope. I will be out during the surgery since they're not messing with the past of my brain that has to do with speech. So at least there's that.

I for sure did not see this coming. Not one bit. I'm so seriously lucky that Yea Networks (the LLC business name behind the show) has been so supportive. I have gotten THOUSANDS of messages from people who want me to know they're praying for me. I wish I could reply to every one, but I can't. I'm not even exaggerating when I say THOUSANDS of you have been very vocal about letting me know I'm in your thoughts.

It's easy to ask "why me" when bad stuff happens. You know? But I've come to realize that this question should be asked during the good times, too. Why me? Why do I deserve to be a part of your thoughts and prayers? I'm very blessed and I just need you all to know that I recognize it.

I'm scared about this surgery. Terrified in fact. But this is totally out of my hands and in the hands of two of the best surgeons in Dallas. There will be some temporary side effects, but full recovery is expected. I wish that I knew specifics to share with you guys, but I don't. I don't know if I will have my phone or laptop with me for a few days, but I will ask my mom to post updates on my behalf. I guess I better delete all of the naked pics I've got in my phone so she doesn't see them. J/K.

Thank you again for all of your love and support. I'm gonna use every bit of it to get through this scary time. Love you guys.

Shanon

  2. Absolutely praying Shanon! I've had 2 brain surgeries, so I understand the fear. I can also tell you that I am 100% okay. Those surgeries were when I was 17, and now I am 32. :-) God is good through the good and the bad. Prayers for peace and a good night's sleep will certainly go up for you tonight. Prayers for the surgeons too. <3

  10. Good luck. I've been in the same situation. I had brain surgery in April and it was very scary. I came out fine. Although I still have some head pain, everything turned out fine. My tumor was benign as well. Good luck tomorrow.

  13. Girl, you got this. It is out of your hands and in the hands of our Savior Jeses. If you have never wanted to know him before now, this is a good time. He died for us, and your life is in his hands, always. There is a purpose. Praying for you and nothing but faith that you will get thru this and be able to share your testimony with others. Love you!!!!

  28. It's all gonna be ok, girl. You have every right to be scared...who wouldn't be?? But, you know that God will carry you through this and in a few months you'll look back and ask yourself how in the world you made it-but you'll know the answer-God. Prayers and strength to you, your parents, family, and friends. We all care...

  29. You've been added to my prayer list and the prayer list at my church, so there are at least HUNDREDS of pirates for you here in Savannah.
Being a nurse, I'm also praying for well rested surgeons, surgical staff, and all medical care staff involved. Praying for your family, your friends, and all those who care about you. May the surgeons have steady hands and a clear mind for you. You've always come across as a fighter, usually for others, and I know you are a fighter for yourself. We love you!

  35. My husband had emergency brain surgery on Thursday. He is a cancer patient but we had no idea that he had a tumor in his brain that was bleeding. The ER found the bleed... the neurosurgeons did the surgery and found the tumor. He is still in ICU... recovering slowly but surely. (Dr. Finn is awesome by the way.)

I know you will do great! You are young and otherwise healthy! It IS so scary... but hold on to your faith and the love and encouragement of your friends and family and fans. YOU GOT THIS!
    :)

  39. Prayers for you, your family and the medical team. My Gracie, who will be going on Kidd's Kids next week said that when she has surgeries it is good to cry, have someone read you or tell you stories, have someone rub your feet and smell your blankie or favorite stuffed animal. These will also help you get better after the surgery. We will be thinking of you and praying for you.

  40. Shanon, I'm praying that God is giving you calmness and a sense of peace as you prepare for surgery this morning, that He guides the surgeons' hands during the surgery, and that you have a complete and speedy recovery. God's healing hands are on you.
